Dear President Drake,
We, the undersigned, call on the UC administration to join us in fighting back against the recent threats to our institution, our careers, and livelihoods. The Trump administration’s threats to research funding; to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs; transgender rights and care; visa holders and immigrant workers and students, undermine our ability to serve the community..
As such we ask you to immediately:
- Expand availability of bridge funding for all researchers impacted by funding cuts, including those that stem from attacks on DEI initiatives;
- Vociferously advocate against these attacks alongside campus workers and pursue whatever strategies are necessary to prevent cuts from being enacted;
- Expand availability of resources for visa holders and non-citizens, including Know Your Rights trainings and legal support;
- Commit to protect and continue care and research for transgender communities and LGBTQ+ workers
We implore you and the Board of Regents to work with us and other campus workforces to take these actions now and take a strong position in defending the University of California’s mission to serve society as a center of higher learning. By taking such a position, you can prevent the chilling effect of these orders on the research mission of the UC.
