  • Unite for Science! UAW 4811 Science Fair for Canceled Research

  • Every day, UCLA academic workers do life-saving research that advances the boundaries of scientific knowledge. Instead of supporting this research which brings world-class talent to the United States, President Trump has decided to attack our research and our careers by cutting public research funding and suspending hundreds of millions of dollars in grants. These attacks put more than just researchers at risk–they risk the lives of every American whose health relies on the publicly-funded research done at UCLA by UAW members.

On Thursday, September 11th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Rolfe Courtyard, researchers from across UCLA will be coming together to show the UCLA community and the public the devastating impact of these grant suspensions on our research and the impact this will have on America. It’s critical that every researcher who is affected by these cuts attends to show Trump that he needs to end the suspensions now. Can you make it?

  • Instructions for Posters at the UAW 4811 Science Fair for Canceled Research

At the science fair, researchers affected by Trump’s grant suspensions or funding cuts will be giving poster presentations about their research. The audience of these presentations are reporters and the public, not colleagues in your field. Focus on the impacts of your research and the negative effects of the funding cuts on your project.

Researchers presenting at the science fair will be meeting with their colleagues before the event to register their posters and go over the best practices for designing and presenting your research. Below, please select the prep meeting you will attend according to your research field. Attending a prep meeting or meeting with an event organizer is required to present your poster.

Due to limited space, not all posters can be accepted.

  • Our union's political fund, the Voluntary Community Action Program (V-CAP) is essential to electing pro-worker candidates, expanding state funding for higher education, and passing priority legislation like SB 829 and AB 885 to expand scientific research funding. Just like majority union membership and membership dues give academic workers a strong collective voice in our workplace, contributing to V-CAP gives us a strong collective voice in shaping state and national policy around science funding, workplace rights, immigration, and more.
