UAW Voluntary Community Action Program (V-CAP)
Through UAW, workers in California and beyond have successfully advocated for transformative policy reforms and supported candidates with progressive, pro-labor platforms. These victories include:
- Increasing state and federal funding for education and research
- Passing the California DREAM Act, which protects young immigrants from deportation
- Making housing more affordable by passing Measure ULA to raise ~$900 million a year for public social housing
- Expanding the right to unionize by passing SB 201, which gave 17,000 UC Student Researchers the ability to form a union in 2021
- Making UC accountable to state wage theft laws when they pay us late or incorrectly
- Expanding protections for international and immigrant workers by extending Optional Practical training (OPT) and winning greater rights for H1B visa holders
