  • For decades at UC, many SSAPs and RPSPs have been overworked, underpaid with no guaranteed raises and denied career development opportunities. That's why 12,000 staff came together to form our union and bargain for our first union contract! Now all represented employees in the RPSP and SSAP units are able to sign up as union members. The rights and protections we won in our contract are only possible because hundreds of thousands of workers before have become dues-paying members. As UAW-represented workers, we only have power to negotiate with UC management because a majority choose to become dues-paying members and bargain collectively.

By opting-in to union membership you are helping ensure that we have the collective resources necessary to enforce our contract and negotiate on equal footing with UC. Members also set our union’s priorities: electing officers, setting bargaining priorities, and voting on important decisions like contract ratification.

  • 1) I want to become a Union Member!

I accept membership in the UAW and its designated Local that represents me with respect to my working conditions at UC. I agree to pay a one-time $10 initiation fee and monthly dues, currently 1.44% of my gross pay. I authorize UC to deduct the initiation fee and monthly membership dues from my pay and remit them to the Union. Unless revoked, this authorization is to remain in effect for all periods of time in which I am a UAW member and receiving a paycheck for work performed in a UAW-represented unit.

  • 2) I want a voice in local, state and national politics!

The Voluntary Community Action Program (V-CAP) is how UAW members pool our resources to advance our priorities in Federal, State, and Local policy.

I am a US eligible voter or US Permanent Resident and I hereby join UAW members across the country to have a stronger voice in my community by contributing to the UAW Voluntary Community Action Program (V-CAP). I assign to UAW V-CAP the following sum or percentage of my gross pay each and every month, and voluntarily authorize UC each month to deduct this amount from my wages and remit it to UAW V- CAP. I understand that signing this authorization and contributing to UAW V-CAP are not conditions of employment or UAW membership, that contributions are not tax-deductible, and that my status, rights, and benefits in UAW will not be affected by whether or how much I contribute. I also understand that UAW V-CAP will use the money received to make political contributions in connection with local, state, and federal elections as decided on democratically by UAW members.

  • Last thing!  Governor Newsom and top legislative leaders are deciding in the coming weeks whether to place the California Health & Science Research Bond on the 2026 ballot.

The California Health & Science Research Bond Act (SB 895) is a bill that would place a bond on the November 2026 ballot to fund life-saving research at California institutions that is at risk of being cut by the Trump Administration. Learn more at savesciencesavelives.com.
