Script you can use to call your Assembly member and Senator’s office:
My name is [your full name] and I am a constituent from [where you live] and I am a [State Scientist or your classification or other descriptor] in Bargaining Unit 10 and proud member of CAPS-UAW Local 1115 and I do [very short description of what you do] for the state of California, my work supports California science by [outcome your work supports].
State scientists have a 3-year contract that includes raises that were supposed to go into effect on July 1, 2026, but were not included in the Budget Act. I’m calling to ask [the Assemblymember/Senator] to support me and my coworkers and the vital work we do by funding our contractually agreed-upon salaries in a budget trailer bill.
We have heard in conversation with Assembly and Senate Budget Committee members that the Legislature was not aware that our raises were not included in the Budget in June. We hope to get the issue resolved as soon as possible, and ask [the Assemblymember/Senator] to elevate this issue with Legislative Leadership and support the inclusion of our raises in a budget trailer bill by the end of the week. Is [the Assemblymember/Senator] aware of this issue and will they support including raises for State Scientists in a trailer bill?
